Personal Updates

Between late night binges playing Phasmophobia, I’ve been doing a lot of “future work” lately. Thinking about Novatorius, Siren, and what it all means. How does it all connect to my beliefs, and my life, and what’s the purpose of all of it.

I’ve always had a sense of why, but it’s never been that clear. Just strong emotions, and a general “feeling”. A lot of my time has been working through articulating that stuff lately.

    A Season Of Change

It’s been a heck of a week. I left my job, my wife started working on her art professionally, my kids started going to public school for the first time ever, I released a big Siren update, and I started picking up freelance work.

Today Was My Last Day At My Day Job

Own Your Platform

I believe in the Fediverse, and the ideals of owing your platform.

I treat my personal site as a central hub, so you’ll find everything I post on this site. It’s just my way of trying to make the web a little more decentralized, and own my content.

I am pretty passionate about this idea, and I think you could do the same, too. If you’re willing to spend a little more time sharing your content in one more location, you can do it, too.

  • Making some minor updates and upgrades to my site, and it just makes me so happy. When I made this site originally, I was on a mission to make it something I use regularly, and is something that reflects my personality online. Something that 13 year old me would have looked at and said wow this is so cool! my very own website!

And I think this site has accomplished that. 😄

  • The Friends WordPress plugin, Mastodon Apps, and ActivityPub plugins have come a LONG way in the last few years. With some setup, and a few tightly-coupled plugins, you can make your blog a fully-functioning WordPress-based private Mastodon instance. It’s amazing!

  • Experimenting with the a Mastodon app connecting directly to my blog. No idea where this is gonna go or how it works, but seems pretty cool.

Set up the friends plugin today and followed a bunch of people I used to follow on Fosstodon. Curious to see if all of this populates this app natively.
