Welp. It’s time to start practicing chess. Ben has been practicing this year, and he just absolutely smoked me.

We’re putting down my 15/yo cat tomorrow 😢. Was not an easy decision and it’s hitting me harder than I expected.

I kayaked, fished a little, did some work on Siren’s website, flew a kite (and failed), hung out on a boat with my out of state family, and got some sun. Summer’s off to a great start.

I am exhausted though. What a day!

My kids:

10: “Gideon is definitely a boy, not an adult because he’s in love with Mabel, and Disney wouldn’t do that”

Mom: “Well, have you not watched The Lion King?”

10: “Yeah, but that was in the olden days”

Mom: “Do you want to kiss me on the cheek before you STAB ME IN THE BACK?!”

This summer, I somehow managed to convince my family to keep waking up at the same time they did for school, and instead spend 20 minutes cleaning the house, then go out together for some exercise in nature before we start our day. Yesterday it was a literal walk in the park, today we’re going to kayak.

The house has remained clean, everyone’s mood is visibly better, and nobody has complained that they didn’t get enough time to do the things they want to do.

I wish we did this years ago!

My boys:

6 – “Debug mode? What’s that?”

11 – “It basically lets you put stuff on the map whenever you want”

6 – “Oh, so you can test the maps?”

I was a little surprised 6 made the jump to “debug is for testing” instead of “oh it’s creative mode!”

What I’d give for a rain-free weekend! I guess it’ll be less-painful when the kids are out of school, but geez.
