Wooooo buddy what a week the Standiford household has had.
My leave from GoDaddy happened the same week my wife decided to start focusing more on her career as an artist, and both of my kids are going to public school for the first time. So, as you can imagine, we’re in the midst of a lot of change right now. It’s stressful, and there’s challenges all around, but we were all collectively ready to mix things up, anyway.
We moved back into a house after our 4 years on the road almost a year ago. I can hardly believe it’s been that long, but here we are. In many ways, we all feel like we’re just…getting started with living at home again, now that the boys are going to school. That was one of the key motivations for us to stop – we wanted to send our kids to public school. Neither of them have ever experienced it, and regardless of if we decide they should stay in public school or not, we felt it was an important part of a childhood experience, and would be really good for both of them.
That being said, it has been a challenge. Ben, our eldest, is starting 4th grade, and this has been really difficult for him. There’s a lot for him to adjust to, and he hates it right now. Honestly, I’m not convinced he’ll ever like it, but I do hope that he’ll make some friends and at least get used to it. A rigid routine, and some social context will do him a lot of good, but it’s clear that it’s going to be a painful path for him. We’ve been proactive, however, and are in good communication with his school, and they’ve been really doing a great job in helping Ben out.
With me shifting into freelancing, I’ve been in scrappy mode, generating leads, prodding my network, and figuring out how I’m going to replace my income as fast as I can. I have some runway to work with, but not much, and honestly I don’t want to use it unless I absolutely have to.
So-far, I’ve managed to book retainers that will cover a decent chunk of the total, but I still have a ways to go, so If you happen to know someone looking for a capable WordPress developer with a knack for product design, I might be the perfect person for you. Here’s my resume, as well as my portfolio.
Oh, and of course, Siren launched the LifterLMS integration, which made it possible to create entire program types that absolutely no other affiliate solution can do. I’m really excited because this is the first update that starts really showing the muscle that I’ve been building into this plugin for so long. This release was really a year in the making. Really excited to move forward with that.
So, yeah, this past week has been a hodgepodge of change, some positive, some negative. Despite the stress we’re all feeling, and the fact that we all have bags under our eyes right now, the spirit in the household is hopeful, and excited about what’s to come.
