Ben chose an inopportune time to decide vegetables smell good.

Well I just lost a day going down a rabbit hole of improving my personal website. I’m glad it’s done because it’s much better now, but I’m disappointed in myself for losing focus on the work I was supposed to be doing today.

That’s alright, I think I can just swap my plans for Friday with today. Seems a worthy sacrifice. Especially considering the updates I made on my site really sharpens the myriad calls to action that I have spread out all over the interwebs.

Making some minor updates and upgrades to my site, and it just makes me so happy. When I made this site originally, I was on a mission to make it something I use regularly, and is something that reflects my personality online. Something that 13 year old me would have looked at and said wow this is so cool! my very own website!

And I think this site has accomplished that. 😄

The Friends WordPress plugin, Mastodon Apps, and ActivityPub plugins have come a LONG way in the last few years. With some setup, and a few tightly-coupled plugins, you can make your blog a fully-functioning WordPress-based private Mastodon instance. It’s amazing!

Experimenting with the a Mastodon app connecting directly to my blog. No idea where this is gonna go or how it works, but seems pretty cool.

Set up the friends plugin today and followed a bunch of people I used to follow on Fosstodon. Curious to see if all of this populates this app natively.

    The Trough of Despair

I hit the “trough of despair,” rebuilt my systems, and somehow kept the lights on. Here’s how this year has reshaped me as a founder, a leader, and a parent.

This little update on my site makes me so happy. My following of people who follow my website directly as opposed to following on social continues to grow. I still strongly believe that federation is the future of a healthier, happier (see: not “dead”) web.

I need to record myself flying this Tantrum kite sometime. On gusty days it’s a real workout. When the gusts die down, you have to sprint a bit to find the window and keep the kite in the air. When the gust is up, you’re basically rowing to keep the kite from pulling you away. So much fun!

    Today’s list:

    • Fix a problem with WooCommerce Subscriptions for a customer
    • Fix a problem with another customer’s education section
    • Onboard a new client
    • Attend a local Chamber of Commerce event
    • Make pancakes, because I really want some pancakes.

🫠Need 3 of me right now

Exercise has to be fun for me, or I just won’t do it. Today’s workout was brought to you by autumn wind, and my Tantrum 220. I think I might be dying. 🥵
