Why Smart Businesses Keep Building the Wrong Systems (And What I’m Doing About It)

In case you haven’t heard, I’ve been interviewing a lot of people lately.

I’ve been having meetings with various coaches, and even taking on interviews on various podcasts, interviewing people directly on the PartnerShip podcast. On-top of that, I’ve been having several 1:1 calls with Siren customers, since everyone who buys Siren is offered to schedule a 1:1 call where I help them learn how to set up their first program.

And from those calls, I’ve started to notice a pattern. That pattern is fundamentally changing how I think about building my business.

Here’s the thing: When I talk to people about Siren and partnership marketing, I often realize they’re not ready for that conversation yet. Not because they don’t need it, but because they’re still figuring out their fundamental marketing systems. They’re caught in this cycle of manual tasks and partial automation that’s eating up all their mental bandwidth. In other words, they’re simply not ready yet.

I get it. I’ve been there. Heck, I spent years helping businesses build these exact systems. And what I’ve learned is that there’s a natural evolution businesses go through as they mature their marketing operations. You can’t skip steps, and you can’t rush the process. But you can make it more intentional.

That realization led me to create something I’m excited to share today: The Growth Evolution Index.

The Growth Evolution Index a diagnostic system that helps businesses understand exactly where they are in their marketing evolution and – this is the crucial part – what they should focus on right now. Not what they could do. Not what others are doing. What makes sense for their specific stage of growth.

By asking you 10 simple, multiple-choice questions, what sequence of steps leads to sustainable growth, this index can pinpoint exactly where your business is, what problems you’re likely facing now, and what things you need to focus on to move on to the next level.

The Index breaks through that by showing you exactly where you stand and what needs to happen next.

If you’re curious about where your business is in this evolution, you can take the assessment here.

It takes about 3 minutes, and you’ll get an immediate breakdown of your current stage and what you should be focusing on right now. More importantly, you’ll understand what you can safely ignore for now – because sometimes knowing what not to do is just as valuable as knowing what to do.

I knew I was onto something because after I built this, I took the test myself, and even as I was writing the content for these different levels I found myself going oh yeah, that’s a big pain point for me. Literally by building this, I ended up becoming a user of it myself, even though I already know the content (obviously, I wrote it 🙃).

This assessment might challenge some of your assumptions about what you should be working on right now. That’s by design. Sometimes the best path forward isn’t the one you’d expect. There’s an order of operations that makes sense for most businesses, and this index is a key part of showing you how to get to the level that you want.

I’m just getting started with this, and plan on sharing a lot more about what I’ve learned about business evolution and the patterns I’ve seen work (and fail). Consider this the first step in a much bigger conversation about how businesses really grow and evolve.
