Over the weekend I discovered the flick stick + gyro controller configuration for FPS games. If you’re typically a mouse/keyboard player and want to get a LOT closer to the control you have with mouse/keyboard using a controller, give it a try.

Okay, so credit where credit’s due. Codex correctly assessed a very obscure issue deep in PHPNomad’s codebase this week with a Siren client on a specific type of host.

It correctly nailed the actual problem in 1 session, and a week later I was finally able to prove it, and get the bug fixed.

Not saying Claude couldn’t do it, but it felt like it had more…tenacity, maybe?

I often just need to spin up a quick WordPress install to test something very, very specific, and then tear it down when I’m done.

So I had AI whip up a little utility for me. It loads a fresh WP install in your /tmp directory, and has a way to quickly remove the install when you’re done (but of course if you don’t it’ll just go away because it’s in tmp.)

Nothing too flashy, and obviously built specifically for my use-case, but I figured I’d share it publicly just in case it would be useful to someone else.

And with that, we officially have so many testimonials for Siren that I have to redesign my reviews layout on my product page. 🎉🎉🎉

An AI-enhanced workflow absolutely can multiply your work, but I’ve never been totally satisfied with a “one shot” of anything AI made when it’s actually something that I need to maintain.

So much of my flow has begun to revolve around a lot of the things Chris Lema is talking about here.

This has been a pretty big time/money saver with PHPNomad. I set up a CLI that makes it possible to scaffold code that fits PHPNomad’s patterns quickly. With it, I’m able to establish patterns in projects and save the patterns as JSON files in my PHPNomad projects so AI can leverage them when it needs to create things again later.

Not only does this save a lot on tokens, it also ensures that AI doesn’t have to guess when I say “Use the x pattern that is established in this repository to do y”

It can also discover them on its own, which is nice.

The CLI also has the capability to index pretty much all of PHPNomad’s code and save it into a batch of JSONL files, which allows AI agents to grok my project quickly without combing through the entire codebase.

It has had a profound impact on my AI token usage.

The gravity of your hometown will always give you reasons to stay home. Sometimes that gravity is strong, and sometimes it will weaken. When it’s weak, leave. Travel. See things. You can always come back, but the opportunity is always a fleeting thing.

When we traveled in our camper, we left my kids were 1 and 4. My family and parents weren’t anywhere near needing any help from us, my kids didn’t have school friends yet, I was working remotely for a stable job, and my wife didn’t have a job. We happened to have a camper in our posession and a truck to haul it.

On paper, that’s about as good of an opportunity as any, and yet it was still a significant, and difficult transition, but I’m glad we did when we did, because the gravity of my hometown ramped up quite a bit more once my kids started making friends.

By the time they’re old enough to decide to go travel full-time, it’s entirely possible that either of mine or my wife’s parents may need us to be nearby to help them as they get older.

I guess what I’m getting at is take a look at your life right now, and if the only reason why you are where you’re at is because you’re scared, then re-think it. A few years on the road can completely change your life, and the opportunity to do it is neither universal, nor permanently on the table.

I took my boys fishin’ yesterday, and it was a huge hit! We caught lots of fish, and even cleaned ‘em up and made dinner over the campfire.

Not all days at the campground feel distinctively “camping” but last night felt pretty old skool, and we had a blast.

This old pupper sure does love going to the campground with me ❤️. She loves going to the dog park and playing fetch. Good for about 3 throws these days but by god she gives it her all for those throws.
