I used to be the dev crying “but code quality”. The truth it’s, it just doesn’t matter that much, because AI can refactor and organize that tech debt pretty fast. It allows you to iterate and improve the code faster, and that includes bearing down on tech debt

It’s been deeply satisfying to see AI leverage PHPNomad to build out so much of my Novatorius infrastructure this week. So cool to see the stuff I’ve been using to build plugins for clients, and Siren, also be completely usable elsewhere without changing context.

If AI can build the software, what do I actually sell?
I had a weird moment this week that stuck with me. I built something in about an hour that would have taken me a month a year ago. Same outcome. Completely legitimate – built to my standards, but in minutes instead of weeks. It was REALLY something to behold, but it genuinely made me sick to my stomach. Depressed, even. The thing that always made me feel protected, writing code, just stopped feeling like protection, and I just watched it evaporate right in front of my face. I’ve been processing this a lot, what it means, and how it changes…

Everyone’s talking about the coding upgrades they’re getting from AI, but a big upgrade for me has simply been background research. Today, My AI assistant found:
1. A qualified lead
2. A competitor insight
3. Two great blog post ideas
4. A great LinkedIn topic

THIS IS SO COOL. I set up an AI-infused RSS flow that curates content for me and builds my own newspaper formatted as ePub. It’s like Paper.li but the curation is better and it’s formattated specifically for my e reader.

This was really fun to put together. An art gallery and shopping experience for my wife’s website. You can pick the wall color, tweak the frame, and pick a mat. I wanted people to see what her work would look like in their home.

Remember when you watched Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and the dad had these fantastic contraptions that were his own personal devices that were clearly FOR HIM and him only and you thought “Man that’d be so cool!”
That’s what it feels like to make personal software right now.
