    Turn Down The Difficulty

After an unexpected all-nighter in a hospital waiting room, I stumbled upon a game-changing thought: “How can I turn down the difficulty?” This simple question has revealed a powerful strategy for navigating life’s unexpected challenges.

Kate’s coffee game beats mine, though.

Wait, I’m seeing music that’s from 2023 that sounds like 2001. Rap-infused metal, drop-C tonality.

    …is Nu-Metal cool again?

Myrath popped up on my feed today and I’m really diggin’ it. It’s a curious mix of sounds. Instrumentation that reminds me of Septicflesh, but with vocals that are more akin to Queensryche, with some badass slap bass underneath. I guess the Septicflesh bit is because I listen to Communion pretty often, and that album has some themes from the same part of the world as Myrath’s general sound. I guess according to Every Noise at Once, Myrath falls under “Arab Metal“.

Feeling like Hep Alien over here with my “x meets y” description lol

It’s dark out. Thanks DST. With that, I offer you the aptly named “dramatically lit Massachusetts cup.” 😅

Feeling like being somewhere else today, so I figured one of my Been There cups felt appropriate.

I can’t stop listening to this album. There’s something about the 1800’s era Americana theme, combined with…just really catchy melodies. I’ve actually listened to it so much that it’s caused me to watch documentaries about “Ohio Fever” and “The Year Without a Summer”.

Funny, since we just came back to Ohio after our 4 years on the road. Maybe we had Ohio Fever, too.

  • Looking For A Good Content Organizer For WordPress (Solved!)

I recently imported a decades worth of tweets on my site, and the hashtags were automatically added as regular tags. Now I want to go through and wrangle them. I know I can do a lot of this in core WordPress, but I’m hoping I can find some utilities that will make this easier.

  • A Litany of Potential Improvements.

After importing over a decade of tweets into my site, I had several improvements to offer to the import utility I used. I compiled my changes to the code, and submitted it as a pull request, detailing what I needed, and why.

Devin, waiting for me in the living room.

DAD! DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?!

I don’t, Devin. What time is it?

WHEW what a process! I managed to get all of my tweets that I exported and deleted from Twitter two years ago, all imported into this site, including all of the photos and videos. I think I can finally say that I have centralized all of my content through alexstandiford.com now. Huge thanks to Shawn Hooper for building this importer, as it gave me a big leg up in the process. From here, it’s just a matter of wrangling all of the tags, and generally organizing the content a little better, but the fact that it’s in WordPress is a huge first step.

I’ll share a blog post that goes into the stack, and details of the process soon.
