I opened the door today to get some packages that other campers made sure to deliver to our door today. As I did, a group across the field shouted WE MISS YOU ALEX!!!!! we’re still quarantining for COVID, so we haven’t seen anyone all week.
Community is fundamentally why we started picking two seasonal spots, and I’m so here for this moment. It’s nice to be loved.

Pitch – JSON Approach For the Fields API
I started working on a very rough PoC earlier this week, and it helped me form an opinion on how I think the fields API could work. I think there’s some pretty good ideas here that would allow us to implement the fields API without disrupting WordPress backcompat.

We made it back to Charlie, our camper in Vermont, yesterday. We’ve all got Covid and I’m pretty much spending my day recovering. Gilmore Girls, fever reducers, and tissues abound. I’m so glad we got back before everyone’s symptoms peaked.

PoC – A Registry-Based Approach To The Fields API
This is a very early look at a potential solution to the fields API. This is not ready for actual review. I’m pushing early mostly so we can talk about some of the things in the PR and see if there’s significant problems. Approach The idea here is that there is a central singleton registry that registers four different things (we could potentially split this up if it makes sense, the class is getting kinda big). Control and Datastore Types The idea here is that there is an associative array of registrable “types”, which get associated with a PHP class…

Well, I had a good run. Just over 3 years I have managed to dodge Covid, but it seems my luck has run out.
And no, isolating in a camper is anything but fun.

I got to spend my last day with some of my GoDaddy co-workers riding bikes around DC, throwing frisbee around the capitol, spent some time at the aeronautics museum, and finished up with some sushi. I’m now safely home in my camper, both wired and exhausted from the weekend. ‘Till next time, y’all!

Turned in early for WordCamp this evening to eat delivery pizza and drink beers with some of my favorite co-workers. It was a perfect low-key way to end WordCamp this year. We listened to a wide range of music, talked about cultural cuisines, and watched some old YouTube videos. This may be my new favorite way to close off WordCamp.
