It’s been long enough now that I can hardly imagine going back to the classic editor, but there are still people out there who haven’t made the switch. This post talks about some of the differences in workflow when building a custom #WordPress theme.

If you’re coming from an extensive class-based PHP background, and trying to learn React, one of the BIG things you’ll have to learn to understand is composition-based patterns, instead of inheritance.
Also, Promises. Get really f’cking comfortable with Promises.

“This lifestyle has opened up the possibility to invest my lifetime by caring about the way we live and the experience we have of living instead of hustling to afford a lifestyle focused on consuming things.”

WordPress is harder to develop with than before, but it’s becoming much more powerful, and the needs to actually build with custom code is decreasing as blocks, and plugins are being developed.
It’s more sophisticated than before, and I believe that it is better for it.

Kate and I have always had this dynamic, where I bring in income, and she builds our life to use that income as effectively as possible. We’ve always focused on both ends of cash flow – reduce expenses while increasing income.
I got the easy job.

I find the hardest part of a post to write is the introduction, and the conclusion.
If you start there, and you’re stuck, try writing out the headings of your post, fill them in, and edit until you get your post. The intro and conclusion is a lot easier at that point.

When you first delegate something, you’ll spend MORE time on it at first. Eventually it gets better. Delegate BEFORE you’re overwhelmed, otherwise you’re setting up the person you’re delegating to for failure. They deserve better, and so do you.
