Been messing with the discoverability of my blog lately, and I’ve kinda come full-circle, tag cloud, categories, and search on the sidebar. If it ‘aint broke, I guess.

Nick, the creator of the Block Visibility plugin asked me to submit a feature request with some information about post formats.

How I Made My WordPress Archive Style Different Post Formats
This is a big win for me! I was able to set up my site so that posts in an archive can be displayed based on the post format – WITHOUT building a custom block, just a small PHP snippet.

I did some CSS hacking to make my archive and single tweets at least look okay. It’s definitely not what I want it to be, but it’ll do for now as a quick fix to make it at least presentable. The alternative is a custom block. I think others need this as well – maybe there’s a collaboration opportunity to build something that solves our immediate problem? Maybe Courtney, or Tom?

So this is kinda neat. I added a tiny little widget to my WordPress dashboard that allows me to speed up the process of publishing microposts (tweets) on my site.

Looking For A Good Content Organizer For WordPress (Solved!)
I recently imported a decades worth of tweets on my site, and the hashtags were automatically added as regular tags. Now I want to go through and wrangle them. I know I can do a lot of this in core WordPress, but I’m hoping I can find some utilities that will make this easier.

A Litany of Potential Improvements.
After importing over a decade of tweets into my site, I had several improvements to offer to the import utility I used. I compiled my changes to the code, and submitted it as a pull request, detailing what I needed, and why.

WHEW what a process! I managed to get all of my tweets that I exported and deleted from Twitter two years ago, all imported into this site, including all of the photos and videos. I think I can finally say that I have centralized all of my content through alexstandiford.com now. Huge thanks to Shawn Hooper for building this importer, as it gave me a big leg up in the process. From here, it’s just a matter of wrangling all of the tags, and generally organizing the content a little better, but the fact that it’s in WordPress is a huge first step.
I’ll share a blog post that goes into the stack, and details of the process soon.

I made several small improvements to my site today. Chief of which is finally getting the mysterious clock in the top-right corner functional on mobile. Also, dancing mermaids. 🧜♀️
I still have a vision of putting a music player on it, and discovered I can totally do this with Last FM. That’s coming. We must have the spirit of 2000s era MySpace, or it’s not authentic.
